You all may know that I am a huge fan of Stila Smudge Pots Gel Eyeliners ($20.00). I think they are amazing and so easy to apply with my Sonia Kashuk Bent Eyeliner Brush ($5.99). But I am sure that most of us are not down with the $20 price tag that comes along with the Stila smudge pots. So what is a girl to do? Look for a quality alternative that is decently priced of course! I was super excited to learn that Maybelline recently released their new eyeliners called EyeStudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner. The best part is that they are only $9.99 and can be found in most drugstores that carry Maybelline products. But did this gel eyeliner WOW me? Read on to find out!
I picked up the liner in the Blackest Black color. There were other varieties to choose from as well such as a charcoal gray, a brown one, and there was also an eggplant purple/plum color.

Here are the claims on this new Gel Eyeliner by Maybelline:
1. Smudgeproof
2. Waterproof
3. Very intense color payoff
4. Safe for sensitive eyes, and contact lens safe
5. Ophthamologist tested
6. It can last 24 hours
7. oil-free formula
I love that this gel eyeliner comes with a brush that has a fine, flexible tip-this makes applying liner super easy because you can actually control how you apply it. Although the brush is pretty good, I still prefer applying this gel eyeliner with the Sonia Kashuk bent eyeliner brush.
The eyeliner comes in a small .106 OZ 3g glass jar. It may seem small, but believe me you only need a tiny bit each time and a little bit always goes a long way. I love when gel eyeliners come in glass jars because I feel like that way, the product lasts much longer without drying up. So far, this gel eyeliner by Maybelline is very creamy, applies smoothly, and has no signs of drying up anytime soon. A good tip that I like to share when it comes to keeping gel eyeliners from drying out so soon, is to close the lid tightly right after you dip your brush inside. If you have to get more product, unscrew the lid open again and close tightly after picking up some more. This method has proven to be effective for me over the years.
When it comes to intense color-this baby does not disappoint! I love how pigmented and deep the color is. What's really great is that I don't have to go back for more product, or go over the same line again and again, in order to intensify the color. One stroke is plenty. I also want to mention that I do find that this eyeliner lasts on my lids for quite some time. I have worn this liner for about 8 hours or so and I am never left with any smudges or flakes at the end of the day.
I am not sure about this liner lasting 24 hours. I don't even think I would ever wear an eyeliner for 24 hours, LOL! I also applied this liner on my waterline, (NOTE: It is not recommended to apply gel or cream eyeliners on the waterline. I do it sometimes because it really does not affect or bother my eyes in any way. I am not endorsing applying gel/cream eyeliners on the waterline, but if you are going to do it, do it at your own discretion!) and it lasts a long time on the waterline-I am impressed!
When it comes to removal, this liner is very easy to remove. I use my makeup remover wipes, then I make sure to follow with my face cleanser, and I am good to go-all off. Easy!
Overall, this gel eyeliner by Maybelline truly has Wowed me. I can honestly say that I can't seem to find anything about this product that I don't love. I can't wait to try the other colors in the line. I am so happy that I have finally found a budget-friendly, drugstore alternative to my beloved Stila Smudge Pot.
Have any of you tried this new Gel Eyeliner by Maybelline? Let me know in the comments section what you all think about it. I want to hear your thoughts!
